Albert Einstein
His name synonymous with genius, Albert Einstein's theories shaped the course of science for much of the 20th Century. Born in Germany in 1879, Einstein studied to be a teacher and worked at the Swiss Patent Office before gaining fame for his theoretical work. He is famous for his theory of relativity, as well as his contributions to theories of gravity, radiation, and quantum physics.

Ernesto "Che" Guevara
A controversial figure of the 20th Century, Che Guevara grew up in Argentina under the dictatorship of Juan Peron. He studied Marx and became a major revolutionary figure in Latin America, joining with Fidel Castro to establish a communist government in Cuba. Guevara's image is iconic in some leftist circles even today.

Henry Louis Mencken
Mencken was born and educated in Baltimore, Maryland, where he rose to fame as a author and critic in the early 20th Century. Influenced by Nietzsche and Gourmont, Mencken regularly excoriated American bourgeois culture in his writing.

Bertrand Russell
A Briton who lived a life devoted to the study of philosphy, Russell taught at leading British and American universities. He garnered some notoriety during the first world war due to his support for passivism.

William Shakespeare
Little is known of the world's most famous playwright, to whom 37 plays and 154 sonnets are credited. Nevertheless, Shakespeare's legacy and influence endure many centuries after his death.
